Back at it.

I know I’ve been off the Tumblr radar for a few weeks now. I’ve had my nose to the grindstone getting things back on track since I’ve returned to San Francisco and I’m excited to have accepted an awesome job at a very exciting startup. It’s in-house PR which is pretty much the perfect gig for me. I couldn’t be happier.

So, now that things in that realm of my life are in order you can expect to see a lot more action on Making New.

It’s my favorite time of year…Memorial Day Weekend. The entire summer awaits. I’ve already got some fun plans in the works. Can’t wait to share the good times with everyone!

Pinning.

I posted not too long ago that Pinterest is my new favorite obsession. I honestly think they should just change the name to Therapist because that is essentially the role it plays in my life. I find it so soothing. Clicking, looking, admiring and pinning - I could do it for hours. It’s so simple and so satisfying.

I find it’s like window shopping without having to leave the house. It prevents me from making sudden and regretful purchases online. Instead of actually buying things on Guilt I simply pin them to my “Want.” board and stare at them for a while. It’s kind of like clicking ‘Add to Cart’ but I don’t have that nerve racking clock ticking away at me telling me to “hurry up and purchase damn it!”

I pin pictures of my dream houses, pictures of my dream men, pictures of attractive and fun celebrities. I don’t really know why. It’s just a nice little distraction I guess. I’ve always found it fun to collect pretty things and have them all in one place. I used to do it as a kid, but instead of posting them to an online board I threw them in a shoe box. This is way easier and more fun. You should follow me: http://pinterest.com/MakingNew/

Weird dreams.
Do you ever have dreams that you’re friends with famous people? Like specific celebrities? Well I do. It happens to me all the time. I don’t really know what it means exactly, but I will have seriously vivid dreams where I am just kicked back and shooting the shit my good pal Angelina. We chat about Brad, the kids. Run off to catch a private plane to Cabo. I’m being totally honest, this is exactly what happened in a recent dream of mine. The weirdest part though…I can’t stand Angelina Jolie. I’ve always been team Aniston.
Prior to my Angelina dream I was eating sushi with Kim Kardashian in Vermont. Again, paired up with another celebrity I don’t really care for. When am I going to start having dreams where I’m playing soccer with Ryan Gosling? Or building sand castles with Justin Timberlake? Well, I guess I do have those too…except those are called day dreams.
Maybe I have to change my diet. They say too much spicy food before bed can give you bad dreams. That would totally explain the dream, rather nightmare, I had in which Renee Zellweger and I spent a day together in Trader Joe’s and Home Depot. I woke up in a cold sweat.

New game.

The roommate and I have been having some serious bonding time over the past week. In doing so we discovered a fun little game we like to call “Drink Wine While Dramatically Reading Facebook Status Updates Out Loud.”

Good lord, we almost wet ourselves the other night. And I must say, we do not discriminate…some of the most gut-busting material came from our very own updates! We are all guilty!

The ironic thing is, after two glasses of wine…the UNFUNNY, mundane  updates turn out to be the most comical! Now imagine reading several dozen of them in rapid succession…you get the point. I’d give some examples but I don’t want to call anyone out so instead I’ll just say…

Trending right now

-People are obsessed with their pets

-People are obsessed with happy hour

-People can’t wait for Friday

Still don’t think it’s funny…well maybe I’m not conveying it well. I challenge you. Find a friend. Drink some wine. Read some updates…but don’t forget to do it dramatically. I like to use my very best Katherine Hepburn impersonation.

Who knew so many laughs could be generated from such a simple concept. Oh, Facebook. What we we do without you?!? Probably a lot. I prefer not to think about it.

This is what it has come to.

Since returning home to San Francisco I’ve decided that I need to eat at restaurants less and start cooking more of my own meals. In theory, this is a wonderful plan. I really enjoy cooking, and in just the past week I’ve made some really delicious creations. But I’ve discovered a problem. To cook meals means keeping a bunch of food in the apartment. I’ve quickly learned that if there is food in the apartment, I will eat it. All of it.

Meatballs for breakfast? Sure, why not! Leftover quesadillas - a lovely mid-afternoon snack. Seriously, it has to stop.

So…I’ve resorted to posting pictures of incredibly attractive and fit men onto my refrigerator door to stop me from eating everything in sight. It seems to be working. When I find myself aimlessly wandering into the kitchen I lock eyes with Mr. Acqua Di Gio and am reminded that raiding the fridge is NOT THE ANSWER. I turn right back around. Willpower!

Swedish invasion.
First weekend back in San Francisco and I was able to enjoy it with friends, old and new, on Baker Beach. It was the absolute perfect Saturday - sunny and hot.
Top that off with a run in with two of my favorite travel buddies from New Zealand! Couldn’t ask for more. Jimmie and Richard are now on the US leg of their journey so I was pleasantly surprised to bump into them on the beach. Pretty crazy to think that just a few weeks ago the 3 of us were sharing adventures in New Zealand and now we are kicking it on the beaches of California.

Not stopping.

Well I’m back in San Francisco. Coachella was an amazing end to an unbelievable 3 month adventure. It’s funny, I feel as though so little has changed but I know so much actually has. Or has it? I guess it’s really too early to tell. I will say that it is good to be back. I love San Francisco so much and being away for a few months only made me love it more.

As I mentioned earlier, my travels may have come to an end for now, but Making New has not. It’s all about what lies ahead…and I have a feeling, the way my life has been recently, this will supply me with a whole bunch of funny shit to write about.

I’ve got a lot to pull off in the next couple months. It seems a bit overwhelming. I need to find a new job. I need to find a new apartment. I’ve got some big decisions to make. Change can be addicting (so says my therapist). I need to pace myself.  One thing at a time and I’ll be alright.

Anyway…

Coachella Highlight: Reuniting with my friends.

Coachella Downer: Someone taking a dump in one of our cars and stealing a camera in the middle of the night.

Santa Monica.

Spending a couple beautiful days in Santa Monica is a wonderful way to ease back into life in The States.

I realized something kind of funny this morning while out for a run on the beach.

When I was 29 I challenged myself to run the LA marathon…that was my big “to-do” for my 29th year. The course started at Dodger Stadium and finished in Santa Monica.

This past year for my 30th, my accomplishment was to go traveling overseas by myself. This challenge started in Thailand and brought me all the way back to…Santa Monica!

Is someone trying to tell me something?!?!
